When the Path is Blurry

If I’m honest, I wonder if the path has ever NOT been blurry.

I think perhaps there were times when I thought it was clear, but that was more a function of being young and naive, rather than true clarity.

Some days, even though I know that to be the case, I long for that clarity of the path ahead. I long for the prescriptive clear road to follow where everything will be okay and turn out just the way I imagine.

My years on this planet have taught me that is just not the way of the world. Life is not a linear path to be followed like A, B, C and 1, 2, 3. It is a roaring ocean, calm and peaceful in one moment and fiercer than any foe you have fought seconds later.

The waves can come crashing in, threatening to pull you under. Sometimes it’s not just a threat. Sometimes, the waves hit so hard and strong that they do pull you under, so long that you believe it is time for the final count.

And you let out your last breath and realize… you’re still alive.
