Survival Was My Only Hope
Survival. Hope. Success. Revenge.
I’m a survivor
I’m not gon’ give up
I’m not gon’ stop
I’m gon’ work harder
That’s me. Always been a survivor.
Choreographed a dance with my middle school girls team when I taught at public high school.
Now in this season of my life, I’d like to become a thriver.
Don’t wanna just not give up and always have to work harder.
I do want to stop and enjoy the fruit of my labor.
I do want to revel in my journey.
But those survivor roots will always be with me.
They got me through.
They got me here.
They kept me alive.
They kept me surviving.
And then I stood on the cliffs of Porthcurno in Cornwall, England and realized that I had made it. I had survived and now I was thriving. Instead of exacting revenge, I had success at my feet and clean air in my lungs. I had made it and it felt even better than I knew was possible.Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Pinterest
